There will be pass/fail physical assessment on the morning of March 24, 2019. The PT assessment will be based on the Cooper "Single Cut Point" standard;

1.5 mile run within 16:28

300 run within 1:11

25 pushups within a minute

29 sit ups within a minute.  


Students failing the PT assessment will not be allowed to continue with the course.



Course Details

TTPOA along with Houston PD SWAT announces a six-day (60-hour) BASIC SWAT SCHOOL in the Houston, Texas area.  This school will be taught primarily by the Houston SWAT team.  The training cadre consists of experienced and recognized SWAT trainers.

Class will start at 0800 hrs  on Sunday (March 24, 2019).


Location on the first day of training is the HPD SWAT office, 7077 Perimeter Park, Houston, Texas, 770041

Students should show up for class in PT gear, PT test will start at 0830--bring clothes to change after.  You will be required to provide transportation for you and your gear in and around the Houston area.

Course Topics

This class will focus on the BASIC understanding of SWAT operations, including: SWAT history, liability issues, physical fitness/wellness, SWAT equipment/weapons selection, intelligence gathering, rapid deployment/rapid rescue, barricaded persons, hazardous warrants, emotionally disturbed persons, vehicle, less-than-lethal applications, noise-flash diversionary devices, and chemical agents. This class will require physical exertion and many hours of practical exercises.


Students must be certified peace officers or active military personnel, in good standing with their agency.  Students must be able to provide agency ID on the first day of class.


There will be a pass/fail physical assessment the morning of the first day of class. Students should show up for class in PT gear --bring clothes to change after.


Students failing the physical assessment will not be allowed to stay in the class. NO REFUNDS

Any student unable to keep up with the class during the PT session, will be removed from the course and will not receive credit.


Throughout the week students will perform physical excercises as team members.

Required Equipment

All normal tactical equipment including, BDU or other similar tactical uniform, PT clothing, body armor, load-bearing vest or web-gear, eye and ear protection, gas mask, handgun and shoulder fired weapon with sling (M16, AR-15, MP5) 500 rounds of handgun ammo, and 500 rounds of long gun ammo.  Weapon Cleaning gear. Please bring any Simunitions equipment that you have, simunition ammunition will be provided.


If you are lacking any tactical equipment, let us know us know ASAP we will do our best to help. You will be assigned a Cadre he will reach out to you several weeks prior for any assistance.

The fee for the course is $400.00 for TTPOA members and $400.00 for non-members. Registration must be done on-line . Payment should be made to TTPOA. Credit card payment is strongly recommended.All fees are due by March 15, 2019. There will be no refunds or course credit for cancellations after that date.
