This course is an introduction to red dot sights mounted on duty/ carry handguns. This course will cover several considerations for the use, maintenance, and training that RDS systems require.

 

Cost for this cost is $75.00. Registration must be done on-line.Payment should be made to TTPOA. Credit card payment is strongly recommended. Payments(checks)should be mailed to: Sgt. There will be no refunds for cancellations after that date.

 

 

This course will cover the following:

-equipment selection

-care and maintenance of the sighting system

-pros and cons of the RDS

-set up and zeroing

-presentation of weapon/ acquiring the red dot

Equipment needed:

eye pro/ ear pro

handgun with slide mounted red dot sight

duty holster (Serpas or any holsters with a retention system controlled by the index finger are not allowed)

250 rounds minimum

body armor (mandatory) 

good attitude and open mind

Instructor:

Sergeant Mike Saxion has been with the Tyler Police Department for 25 years. He currently assigned as the Tyler Police Departments Firearms Coordinator, and tactics training sergeant. He has been on the SWAT Team for 22 years and is currently the sniper team leader. He is a TCOLE Firearms instructor. Sgt. Saxion has carried a RDS on duty for the past 5 years. The Tyler Police Department currently allows officers to carry RDS equipped pistols on duty.
