Course Prerequisites:
All Concealed Carry Instructor candidates must meet and submit the following perquisites.

• Currently possess a state issued license to carry card (private citizens only, law enforcement are exempt)
• Currently possess Instructor Certification, for example (Department/Unit Level Certification, NRA/USCCA Instructor Certification and state recognized associations)
• Have completed and documented at least 40 hours of general firearms training from a recognized instructor/school
• Successfully pass with an 80% or better the skills check entrance test (delivered after registration)

 

Course Description:
The Concealed Carry Instructor Development course is an instructor level three-day course for concealed carry instructors and practitioners. The goal of this course is to learn best practices for teaching concealed carry basics. The course comprises two parts, two- day instructor development and one-day instructor teach back. Instructor candidates will begin by learning the safe progressions for concealed carry with a minimum passing grade of 80% on all graded evolutions. Upon successful completion of the instructor development, candidates will advance to the instructor teach back. Candidates will be assigned teach back material for both classroom and range evolutions as lead and assistant instructors. Instructor candidates will be judged on their subject matter expertise, podium presence, delivery methodology and time management. Those meeting the performance standards will graduate and be officially recognized as Concealed Carry Instructors.
Terminal Objectives:
For all shooting evolutions of the Concealed Carry Instructor Development (CCID) course candidates will use their primary carry gun equipped with iron
sights only, IWB holster and approved cover garment for the specific evolution;
1. The candidate will pass with an 80% or better all performance shooting tests
2. The candidate will pass with an 80% or better the concealed carry written test.
3. The candidate will demonstrate to the instructor’s satisfaction the three principle parts to their subject delivery (introduction, body & summary).
. The candidate will demonstrate to the instructor’s satisfaction the five characteristics of podium presence (knowledge, skills and personality, adult learning theories, time management).
5. The candidate will demonstrate with a plus or minus 15 minutes margin their ability to stay on schedule for all evolutions.
Enabling Objectives:

Upon completion of this program of instruction, the student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the class material through verbal discussion and/or practical exercises of the following tactics, techniques and procedures:
• (Comprehension) Demonstrate safe gun handling skills, nomenclature and manual of operations
• (Comprehension) Explain firearm safety rules
• (Comprehension) Explain the various cover garment clothing requirements and restrictions for concealed carry
• (Analysis) Analyze pro’s & con’s for various types of on the waistband holsters designed for concealed carry
• (Analysis) Analyze pro’s & con’s for various types of inside the waistband holsters designed for concealed carry
• (Analysis) Analyze pro’s & con’s for various types of alternate carry methods and off body carry techniques
• (Application) Demonstrate both one and two hand defeat methodology techniques
• (Application) Demonstrate contingencies for concealed carry drawstroke malfunctions
• (Analysis) Examine various concealment techniques through peer review
• (Analysis) Examine risks for negligent discharges while carrying concealed
• (Application) Apply risk mitigation techniques to reduce negligent discharges
• (Analysis) Analyze common safety violations while carrying concealed
• (Application) Practice the drawstroke from open carry strong side on the waistband (OWB)
• (Application) Practice four main methods for cover garments; closed front shirt, open front shirt, pullover & jacket/coats
• (Application) Practice the drawstroke from concealed carry strong side OWB
• (Application) Practice the drawstroke from concealed carry strong side IWB
• (Application) Demonstrate the drawstroke from AIWB
• (Application) Demonstrate the drawstroke for ankle holsters
• (Application) Demonstrate the drawstroke for pocket holsters

• (Application) Practice reload drills from concealed magazine pouches and pocket techniques
• (Application) Practice strong hand only drills from primary concealed carry option.
• (Application) Practice low light drills from primary concealed carry option
• (Application) Practice shooting on the move drills from primary concealed carry option.

• (Application) Practice close contact drills from primary concealed carry option
• (Application) Demonstrate the drawstroke from a seated position and how to control the muzzle
• (Application) Demonstrate injured drawstroke from strong side IWB and AWIB
• (Comprehension) Explain unknown contact strategies for de-escalation (ask, tell & command)
Gear List:
• Defensive pistol, 9mm recommended
• 2,000 rounds of factory ammunition
• 50 rounds of defense ammunition
• 5x pistol magazines minimum (8 for single stacks)
• 5x inert training rounds
• Training uniform; must have the following:
o Polo
o T-shirt
o Button-down shirt
o Jacket or coat
o Sweater or hoodie
• Concealed carry gear
o Rigid belt
o IWB holster
o OWB holster
o Single and or double magazine pouch
• Handheld flashlight with pocket clip
• Clear/tinted ballistic wrap around eye protection
• Hearing protection
• Notebook & pen/pencil
• Weapons cleaning kit and quality lubrication
• Hydration system and energy snacks

The Cost for the course is 750.00

 

Registration must be done on-line.Payment should be made to TTPOA.  Credit card payment is strongly recommended.  Inquiries regarding the course, payment or other questions can be directed to  hernandezb@garlandtx.gov.   All fees are due by 07/22/19.  There will be no refunds for cancellations after that date.
