The TTPOA will be hosting a Basic Sniper Course. This is an intensive 5-Day/50-hour course that combines classroom theory and practical range/field applications. Class runs Monday May 18 , 2020 through Friday May 22nd 2020. The First day of class will start at First Baptist Church of Forney

The course is restricted to current law enforcement and active duty military personnel only.

This course focuses on developing proficiency with the sniper weapon system and operational tactics.


Training will consist of classroom instruction, practical exercises and live fire drills on; Sniper Team duties and responsibilities, Firearms Safety, Proper Rifle set up and fit, Optical Sight Utilization, Practical Weapon Handling, Marksmanship Fundamentals, Data Book Documentation, Zeroing, Weapon Cleaning & Maintenance, Deadly Force Considerations, Field Equipment, Minute of Angle/Milliradian, Ballistics, Ranging Estimation, Wind Estimation & Corrections, Use of a Ballistic Calculator, Building an accurate Range Card, Final Firing Positions, Cover & Concealment, Observation Intel Gathering & Reporting, Intermediate Barriers, Engaging Moving Targets, Low Light Conditions, Positional Shooting and Qualification.



All students must me be current law enforcement or active duty military personnel. Department/Military Identification will be check on the first day.

In order for students to receive a certificate they will be required to pass a written exam, demonstrate safe weapon handling and apply the skills learned in the course through challenging shooting exercises. Students will also be required to successfully pass a sniper qualification course of fire.   


Required Equipment:

Precision weapon system (bolt action or semi-auto) (5.56mm or larger caliber) with a magnified optic capable of 1moa accuracy or better.

Mildot reticle (variation) pattern is recommended.   Scope should have external elevation/windage adjustments.

Rifle sling and bipod

Drag bag or rifle pack

All SWAT callout gear (helmet, body armor, swat uniform, hat with brim)

Range finder

Binoculars or spotting scope

Field notebook, pencil or pen

Weapon cleaning kit (push rod, brass jag, cleaning solvent, and bore guide)

Eye and hearing protection

Range clothing appropriate for the season and inclement weather conditions

Clothing suitable for stalking

Estimated round count of 500 rounds of match grade ammunition


Recommend gear:

Kestrel/phone with ballistic app – Hornady 4DOF or applied ballistics

Knee and elbow pads

Shooting mat


Lead Instructor will be Kelley Pirkle. Kelley has over 26 years of law enforcement experience, 18 years’ experience as a SWAT Team member. 17 years as a Sniper and 13 years as the sniper team leader.

Kelley has a Master Peace Officer certification, TCOLE Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Patrol Rifle Instructor and Sniper Instructor certifications.

Payment Instructions:

Payment must be received by March 18, 2020 in order to hold your spot in the class. No refunds will be given after this date

The fee for this course is $500. Class size is limited and all registration must be completed online. We recommend all payments be completed online during the registration process.
