This course will cover topics necessary to successfully run Law Enforcement Firearms Training. Topics included in this 40+ hour block of instruction are:
Learning methodology and practical application
Range and student safety
Principals of marksmanship instruction
Problem solving struggling shooters
Principals of semiautomatic handgun instruction
Principals of shotgun instruction
Principals of revolver instruction
Use of cover
Documentation & records
Case law & Liability
Course design and implementation

Required Equipment List:
Semiautomatic duty handgun
A minimum of 3 handgun magazines
1,000 rounds of semiautomatic handgun ammunition
Duty belt with belt keepers
Duty 12 gauge shotgun
30 rounds of 9 Pellet 00 Buckshot (12ga)
20 rounds of rifled slugs (12ga)
Revolver (.38 or larger in caliber)
speed loader for revolver
100 rounds of revolver ammunition
Eye / ear protection
Handheld police/duty light(s) (and weapon lights if applicable)
Weapon cleaning equipment
Black markers (sharpie)
Individual First Aid Kit

Student Requirement Standards:
Students must pass the State handgun and shotgun instructor qualifications (see attached) with a 90% or better, as well as a written examination and graded teach-back assignments.

Louis Silvestro is a full time Texas Peace Officer. Louis has been with his Department for 18 years, 11 of those years as a full time firearms instructor. Louis has extensive experience teaching firearms related skill sets and patrol tactics to individuals & groups in the classroom setting, live role player practical application scenarios, and live-fire range and shoot-house settings. Louis is an adjunct firearms and police tactics instructor at a regional Law Enforcement Academy, is an adjunct instructor for Centrifuge Training, LLC. and owns/operates Lone Star Preparations, LLC, a firearms training company that works with Law Enforcement and the private sector.
