This course will include an introduction/refresher of rappelling and rappel equipment.  This course will cover knot tying, anchor point choice, rope setup, shared anchor points, team, drops, window coverage, window entries, ascending, self rescue and equipment choices.  If you are new to rappel, starting a rappel program, or need intermediate training this class is what you need.

The class will utilize classroom discussion; video and incident debriefs to open up a format to understand the abilities of a rescue operation when negotiations do not produce the desired outcome. Multiple scenarios, based on real-life operations, will be used to enhance the learning objectives. Each officer position and/or team will be defined and tasked with their specific role. Prospective students will be involved in the following categories: Suicidal Jumper Rescue Officer; Negotiator; Suicidal Jumper; Operational Cell member; Mobile and Structural anchor team member; Rappel Gear, Tactical Gear and Personal Equipment team member. Suicidal Jumper Rescue operators are a rare breed, utilizing specific skills that most people typically fear on a daily basis. When dealing with a suicidal jumper it is not unusual for the Fire Department to not attend to the jumper due to the potential danger therein.
